How to Fill Out Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification

Effective August 1st, 2023 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has released a new I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form.

Introduction

Section 1: Employee Information and Attestation

Who completes this section?
The employee must complete and sign Section 1 no later than their first day of employment. Along with completing Section 1 of Form I-9, you will present documents to verify your identity and employment authorization. Page 2 of Form I-9 lists acceptable documents you may bring with you.  SC requires a social security card for tax purposes even if you are using other documents for the I-9.

Who completes this section?
The employer or an authorized representative (SC Supervisor or HR staff) must complete Section 2 within 3 business days of the employee’s first day of work. See Page 2 of Form I-9 for a list of acceptable documents. SC requires a social security card for tax purposes even if the new hire is using other documents for the I-9.
