Students With Incompletes And FERPA Guidelines

Students granted an incomplete in their course cannot be added to new courses they have not been enrolled in due to FERPA regulations. Instead, they should continue within their original course to complete the required work, or if the nature of the assignments has changed since the course officially ended, you may opt to create a shell course specifically tailored to meet the updated requirements per your contract with the student.  If you plan on working with this student in the original course, eLearning will create a new section specifically for this student and extend the course end date for that section only. This allows the student to complete the coursework without affecting other students. If you choose to keep the student in the current course, we in eLearning will create a new section specifically for this student and extend the course end date for that section only. This allows the student to complete the coursework without affecting other students.  Please click here to request eLearning to add a section and new end dates for your student. Once we add this student to the new section, we will notify the faculty member that the new section has been added.  At that time the faculty member will need to go into the course and adjust the due dates, and if you made any viewing restrictions in the original course then you will need to change those in that new section only.
