Since Starfish is accessed through Microsoft, the student must have a Microsoft Entra account first. This is also .

  • Student must be using their Shoreline Network Account (go.shoreline.edu email address). Please note that, if a student is also a college employee, then their starfish login may be under their employee network account rather than their student network account.
  • Misspellings of the student’s Shoreline Network Account will throw this error
  • Student’s Shoreline Network Account status must either be Applicant (a student who has applied and has a ctclink ID but has not enrolled in classes) or Current (a student who is currently taking classes, or has done so recently). Alumni accounts, including returning students who are returning after a long time away but have not yet enrolled in classes, do not have Entra enabled (see more info about Alumni accounts here.)

HTTP Error: “401 – Unauthorized"

Students may receive this error message after inputting the correct credentials. This can be a symptom of incorrect credentials being stored somewhere between the client and the server. Too many incorrect sign-on attempts by the student can also cause this.

  1. To resolve the error, first have students try closing the window in which Starfish is open, and going to the sign in page again. This sometimes resolves the problem.
  2. If that does not succeed, have the student completely clear their web browser’s cache.
  3. After the cache is cleared, have them try signing into Starfish again.
