Do I need to submit an English proficiency test to apply?

Body

Shoreline Community College does not require an English proficiency test like TOEFL or IELTS for admission. Students who have not taken a proficiency test or whose scores did not meet the requirements will take Shoreline's English placement test during orientation.

There are five levels of ESL classes for students to develop reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening. Beyond ESL, there are some English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes starting with EAP 080. While taking an EAP class, students can usually take a college-level class that doesn’t have an English prerequisite. After students complete EAP, they will move into a full college-level academic program, including English 101. To view these levels as a chart, please visit English Language Programs on our website.
