Editing Transcripts to Get Rid of Spaces

  1. Open up the .txt file that you download from Panopto (see above)
  2. This will open the file in Notepad with No Time Stamps but there will be large gaps between each sentence line
  3. To get rid of the gaps, copy all the text in the file by holding Ctrl+A on a PC or Command+A on a Mac to highlight the text and then hold down Ctrl+C or Command+C to copy it
  4. Open up a Microsoft Office word document and paste the test into it by holding Ctrl+V on a PC or Command+V on a Mac
  5. Open up Find and Replace in the word document by holding down Ctrl+G on a PC or Command+G on a Mac and click the Replace tab as shown below:Find and Replace box in Word Document
  6. In the "Find what:" box, type ^p into it and in the "Replace with:" box put a space as shown in the above picture (you cannot see the space in the image but make sure you put it in the "Replace with:" box)
  7. Click Replace All and all the large gaps in the document will disappear
  8. Edit the document if needed if you would like a different font, text size, etc.
  9. Click File-> Save As and save the document with a name in the folder of your choosing

This process will make your transcript easier to read, edit, and print.
