What is an eLearning Peer Mentor?
The eLearning Peer Mentor works with online students (mentees) in their first or second quarter at SCC. They support student success by cultivating a thoughtful relationship with their mentees and by actively listening to and engaging with them to help them build a sense of community at Shoreline. A Peer Mentor also serves as a knowledgeable guide who can connect new online students to the right people and resources on campus to help them succeed in the online learning environment.
The role of an eLearning Peer Mentor is to support student success by:
- Cultivating a thoughtful relationship with mentees by actively listening to and engaging with them.
- Being a knowledgeable guide for new students.
- Being a thoughtful facilitator who provides access to people and resources on campus.
- Helping facilitate a smooth transition into, acclimation to, and a sense of belonging at Shoreline.
- Being a positive role model and advocate for mentees.
