Summary 

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service that Shoreline faculty, staff, and students may use for live classes, online office hours and meetings, or as a backup plan to continue instruction if the college closes due to an emergency.

Breakout rooms allow you to split your Zoom meeting in up to 50 separate sessions. For more information on how to enable breakout rooms in Zoom, see Enabling Breakout Rooms on Zoom's website. 

  1. Download and install the latest app from zoom.us/download. 
  2. Select Check For Updates from within the Zoom app menu that appears when you click on your initials/picture in the upper righthand corner of the app.

  1. Open the Zoom app
  2. Open the settings
  3. Select General 
  4. Select "Automatically keep Zoom desktop client up to date" under Zoom Updates

  1. While in a Zoom call select the green Share Screen icon in the bottom tool bar
  2. Select the screen you want to share
  3. Click Share

There are two parts to offering live transcription to your Zoom attendees as a Host.

First, set up Live Transcription (Captions) in your Zoom Account:

  1. Log into your Zoom account at https://zoom.us/
  2. Click on “Settings” from left-hand menu.
  3. Scroll down (way down) to “In Meeting (Advanced)” settings and a bit farther to find “Automated Captions”.
  4. Check the box next to “Automated Captions" to enable live transcriptions. 

Second, activate live transcription during Zoom sessions where you are the Host

  1. Launch your Zoom meeting.
  2. Look at the control bar for your session. Find the “CC” options.
  3. Click on the “CC” icon and a pop up window will open.
  4. Click on the bottom option to “Enable Auto-Transcription.”

During your Zoom meeting then Alert attendees that they can toggle the live transcription on/off using the “CC” button.

Log in with your shoreline email, and the password you set when creating your Zoom account.

From your Zoom profile page, you can schedule a new meeting, access your Personal Meeting room, or join a previously scheduled meeting.
