Library Laptop OS Support Information

Purpose: 

Library staff are working to gather information about our laptop and Chromebook loaners. We are interested in the operating system (OS) to see if a majority still support updates that are required for accessing Canvas, Honorlock, etc. 

If you have any questions please reach out to the library, learningresources@shoreline.edu or stop by the library front desk. If you are an ESL student and need help, please visit the Language Center or the library. 

Filling out the Form: 

  • Item barcode number 

    • This is a 14-digit number that will start with the number 3. It should be located on the bottom of your device on a white sticker that says “Shoreline Community College” and has a scannable barcode on it.

  • Manufacturer 

    • This is the company that made the device, the brand name. Some examples are Dell, Samsung, HP, Asus, Lenovo, and many more. This can typically be found in multiple locations on your device. Generally, the top, somewhere on the inside, and the bottom.  

  • Serial number  

    • The serial number (often abbreviated "S/N") can be found on the bottom of the device, typically on the manufacturer service tag.  

    • If you have a Chromebook and cannot find the serial number on the bottom of the device, you can find the serial number on the login screen. Before logging in, press Alt + V on the login screen and it will display the serial number (S/N) on the top right of the screen.
