How to Update Canvas User Accounts for Dual Roles (Employee/Student)

If the Canvas user is both an employee and a Shoreline student then, they can have two logins. For example, when an employee signs up for a class through state tuition waiver on the sixth day of instruction, their account will replace the default email address to their student go.shoreline.edu account and they will be unable to log into Canvas with their employee account. However, the Canvas administrator can add a second account login and the user can use either account to access Canvas.

Here are the steps for the Canvas administrator to update the Canvas account.

  1. Ask the user which account they want to be the default email address.
  2. Go to the Admin Panel > People and search for the user.
    • Click on the link of the user's account.
  3. Click on Login Information.
  4. Click on Add Login and enter the additional Shoreline account.
  5. Edit, if necessary, the default email address.
    • Click on Edit and then update the requested default email address.
